More than fifty Amadeus loudspeakers were deployed as part of an ambitious live production commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Xi'an Incident, one of the defining events in modern Chinese history. Combining immersive sound, large-scale video, and live performance, the production brought together nearly 700 actors and twenty 30-foot LED screens to recreate the events that unfolded in Xi'an in 1936.
Presented in a state-run theatre built on the very site where the historical events took place, the production is considered the first large-scale live show dedicated to dramatizing the Xi'an Incident. The immersive sound system was designed to support both the scale of the performance and the historical narrative, providing precise coverage and a coherent listening experience throughout the venue.
The Xi'an Incident marked a turning point in Chinese history. In December 1936, Chiang Kai-shek was detained by General Zhang Xueliang in an attempt to force a united front against the Japanese occupation of Manchuria. Following negotiations involving communist leader Zhou Enlai, Chiang was released and agreed to strengthen resistance against Japan, paving the way for cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party.
For this large-scale commemorative production, Amadeus provided a spatially controlled sound reinforcement system capable of supporting hundreds of performers while maintaining clarity, intelligibility, and emotional impact for the audience.
