Sonntag aus Licht

Summary

HOLOPHONIX teams deployed a spatialization system in the Philharmonie de Paris, as a part of the Sonntag aus Licht project

Recently, at the request of conductor Maxime Pascal, and Florent Derex, co-founder of Le Balcon and sound designer for the production, HOLOPHONIX deployed a spatial audio system at the Philharmonie de Paris, for Sonntag aus Licht, the final completed opera of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s monumental Licht cycle.

Presented as part of the Festival d’Automne à Paris, the production explored many of the themes central to Stockhausen’s work, including movement, space, and the relationship between sound and perception. Spatialization played a fundamental role in the performance, supporting the composer’s vision of music unfolding across multiple dimensions. Through HOLOPHONIX, the artistic and technical teams were able to shape an immersive sonic environment seamlessly integrated with the staging by Ted Huffman, allowing sound to become an essential component of the dramaturgy.
