The HOLOPHONIX processor is designed to work around digital networks:
- it relies on the Dante™ audio network for inputs and outputs,
- the processor’s web-based user interface can be accessed via a web browser on a computer connected to the same local area network,
- every parameter of the processor can be controlled via the network-based Open Sound Control protocol.
Because the user interface is hosted in the processor and accessed via a web browser, the user doesn’t need to install any software on his computer to control the processor. This allows a total cross-platform use, and avoids any software version incompatibility. All the sessions and parameters are stored locally inside the processor.
The processor booting is a fully automated process, requiring no user input. Once the starting phase is done, the station is ready to use.
Before starting to use HOLOPHONIX for the first time, you will need to proceed to the network configuration of the processor. See Network Settings. For this first configuration step, you will need to connect directly to the processor with a monitor, a keyboard, and a mouse.
Connect to the processor a computer screen, keyboard and mouse for local access. They will be necessary for the initial setup of the processor and some tasks (updating, network settings, etc.).
For control rooms, you can use a rackmount KVM console or a KVM extender connected to a distant screen keyboard and mouse, for example.
Connect your HOLOPHONIX processor to the audio network on the Dante® Primary Port and on the Dante® Secondary Port if your setup includes redundancy.
Connect the processor to the Internet and control network, to access the web interface anywhere over the network.
Make sure the processor has Internet access, for updates and technical support.
Connecting to the User Interface
The user can access the web interface either in 'local' mode (directly on the processor through the server interface), or in “remote” mode, with any computer connected to the same network as the processor.
On your web browser, just enter one of the theses options to access the web interface:
- your processor's IP address
We recommend using the web browser Google Chrome™. See Network Settings to learn how to set up your processor’s IP address.
If you only want to control the processor in 'local' mode (i.e., not from a remote computer), you can also connect a keyboard, a mouse and a monitor directly to your HOLOPHONIX processor. This activates the powerful graphic chips of the internal video card, allowing you to work with a maximum resolution of 5K.
Power-Off and Restart
To power off or restart your station, you can use either of these options:
- From the web interface: under the Setup View, then select the 'Misc' tab,
- From the processor: in the 'SYSTEM' tab of the HOLOPHONIX Server interface.
When an update is available, a notification will be displayed on the HOLOPHONIX server's interface.
When you are ready to update, click on the 'UPDATE' button of the notification. The update ID field will be filled automatically.
During the update process, a backup is done automatically. If the update fails, the station will still be able to run with the previous data.
When the update is over, a success message will appear in the console. Follow the instructions given.
All your Presets can be opened with the offline editor 'HOLOPHONIX Designer'. This software running on macOS and Windows offers the same interface as the processor, only without the audio.
The Presets and projects edited or created with HOLOPHONIX Designer can then be imported into the processor.
Adjust the buffer size from the web interface, directly on the processor with local access, or remotely with the web interface. In the Setup View, select the 'AUDIO' tab, then adjust the audio buffer size.
HOLOPHONIX was designed to allow a low latency, below the human perception threshold. You can use low size buffers with your HOLOPHONIX station. For sessions with high CPU usage, it may be necessary to raise the buffer size to prevent possible problems with the audio.
To avoid a global latency that would be too high, check the latency for every piece of equipment in your audio system.
Adjust the sample rate with the Dante™ Controller app.
In the ‘DEVICE’ menu, select ‘DEVICE VIEW’. Choose HOLOPHONIX in the drop-down menu, then open the ‘DEVICE CONFIG’ tab, and reach for the ‘SAMPLE RATE’ section to adjust this parameter.
HOLOPHONIX displays the sample rate in the ‘AUDIO’ tab of the Setup View. It can only be adjusted through the Dante™ Controller app.
Using the Dante™ Controller app, assign the audio inputs and outputs of HOLOPHONIX.
Assign the outputs of HOLOPHONIX to the power amplifier channels corresponding to your loudspeaker setup in the processor. The outputs can also be assigned to a headphone amplifier (for the monitoring bus), or to a recording device if you set up a bus to record a down mix or an HOA stream, for example.
The inputs of HOLOPHONIX can for example receive the audio coming from a digital mixer, a stage box, a playback computer, or any other Dante compatible device.
